The Department of Finance at the University of Zurich hosts several centers that foster research collaboration and/or outreach activities within specific finance-related fields. These centers include:
The Center for Finance and Insurance, founded in 2013, is engaged in research and teaching in the application of financial market theory and mathematics to insurance topics. The CFI forms a bridge between the financial and insurance sectors.
The Center for Sustainable Finance and Private Wealth, founded in 2017, investigates issues in both areas of sustainable finance and private wealth and their intersection in research, teaching, continuing education and services.

The Swiss FinTech Innovation Lab is a cross-disciplinary research program on the global phenomenon of innovation in the financial industry induced by "Financial Technology” (FinTech). It involves researchers from banking and finance, business informatics, innovation management, strategic management, marketing, social sciences, economics, and many other disciplines.

Competence centers are interdisciplinary, interfaculty scientific networks in which researchers and research groups at the University of Zurich (UZH) coordinate their work under strategic objectives.
The UZH Center for Crisis Competence researches the causes, progression and consequences of crises and the success of solutions. It does this on an interdisciplinary basis: it is the only competence center at UZH to bring together researchers from all seven faculties.

In the UZH Center of Competence for Sustainable Finance the Department of Finance combines forces with researchers from informatics, geography mathematics, law, psychology, philosophy, and political sciences.
The center of competence was launched in January 2020 and is dedicated to the following activities:
