Carmen Tanner, Per Östberg, Patrick Eugster, Steven Ongena, Daniel Bopp and Amelie Brune featured in the latest edition of the Oec. Magazine #25, June 2026 

In the latest issue of the Oec. Magazine, entitled “Making an Impact Worldwide”, researchers and alumni from the Faculty of Business, Economics and Informatics explore how knowledge, innovation and collaboration transcend national borders. From responsible decision-making and financial markets to digital transformation and international careers, the magazine highlights how research and education at UZH contribute to solving global challenges. 

Focus People: Amelie Brune

Dr. Amelie Brune works at the heart of international economic cooperation. Based in Washington, D.C., she represents Switzerland at the International Monetary Fund (IMF), where she contributes to discussions on global financial and economic policy. Her career reflects how international experience, and expertise can shape decision-making beyond national borders. (Please note: Dr. Amelie Brune earned a Ph.D. in Banking and Finance at UZH; not in economics, as described in the article).

Focus Voices: Steven Ongena

Prof. Steven Ongena’s research demonstrates the international nature of modern finance. Together with other researchers, he explores how financial institutions, markets and economic developments interact across borders, providing insights into global banking and financial systems.

Research: Carmen Tanner

Prof. Carmen Tanner and her team investigate how ethical decision-making can be strengthened in organizations. Their research explores whether common tools such as reflection questions actually encourage responsible behavior — and shows that ethical interventions need to be carefully designed to achieve their intended impact.

Alumni Portrait: Patrick Eugster

Patrick Eugster combines entrepreneurship and financial education. After founding his own venture during his doctoral studies, he now works on new ways to make financial knowledge more accessible and help people better navigate financial decisions.

Prof. Per Östberg examines how financial regulation and changing market conditions influence the economy. His research explores how financial systems respond to uncertainty and why robust empirical methods are essential for understanding the impact of financial decisions on society.
