Requirements

The following prerequisites ensure that our students demonstrate their potential to be a successful junior researcher and complete their doctorate at our department.

Mandatory requirements

  • University Master's degree  with distinction.
  • GMAT/GRE test score. This is mandatory for students with degrees from institutions outside the Bologna-treaty area and for students with a degree from outside our core areas (Economics, Finance, Business studies).
    The GMAT institution code for the University of Zurich, Doctoral Program in Finance is: 7382.
    The GRE institution code is 7136.
    We do not accept scores older than five years or "GRE at home" and "GMAT online" scores.
  • English: excellent oral and written skills.
  • Outstanding reference letters from at least two professors.

Supporting assets

  • Strong proven qualitative and quantitative skills.
  • Fluency in one or more programming languages.
  • Have a well thought through research proposal and/or show an overlap of your interests with the research conducted at our department – this will ensure we're the right fit for you!
  • Demonstrated exposure to core fields of finance during your undergraduate degree.
  • Previous research or teaching assistance.
  • If you have one, supply  your GMAT/GRE test score, even if it is not required (see above) in your case.

The Regulations of the Faculty of Business, Economics and Informatics i.e. the Doctorate in Business and Economics (PVO13) apply.
