Keynote Lecture

Blended finance—the strategic use of public and philanthropic capital to attract private investment—offers a promising pathway to finance a more sustainable world. In her latest paper, Prof. Flammer and her co-authors present a new conceptual framework that explains how development finance institutions (DFIs) make decisions in blended finance contexts. Using real-world data from a leading DFI, their research shows that DFIs provide greater financial support to projects with higher sustainability impact, particularly in countries facing political risk and information challenges. In such cases, innovative risk management strategies are often employed to ensure project success.

Whether you work in finance, development, or sustainability, this keynote will offer valuable insights and practical takeaways. We warmly thank the UZH Department for Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI)  for supporting this event.
